Transmute Postmortem
This one has really been a humbling learning experience. I felt like all the games I've already done in this class were really successful, and I sort of went into this one thinking that I didn't really need to "try" so to speak. By that I mean, I took my ability to design a good game for granted and thought that it would just naturally arise out of my experimentations with physics components. This is why I decided to go into this project without a plan and just try to organically "find the fun."
This did not end up working out for me. I suppose there's nothing really wrong with taking a slightly less planned-out approach, but however I did it is just not the way to do it. As is often the case, a middle ground is the probably the best option. And frankly, I may have already been taking that middle ground before.
I'm disappointed with my final product this time, but my disappointment comes from the fact that the game is not really complete. I didn't end up having time to create a title screen or add sound, and things like that. It wouldn't have been difficult, necessarily, I could just bash in code from previous projects, but the lack of polish in this game really irks me.
I find myself wishing the game was bigger, and I feel like the idea is solid enough that I could expand it if I had a mind to. More transformations besides cube and cloud would be really fun, and there's opportunity for lots of interesting puzzles to work through. But for the time being, I think I should appreciate what my creation IS, instead of just thinking about what it could be.
